Overview:
Standing Up – Fighting Back is the theme of the American Postal Workers Union’s 22nd Biennial Convention, which is set for Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25, 2014, at McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.
The National Convention is the union’s highest decision-making body and helps the union chart its course for the future. Approximately 2,500 APWU delegates will debate and vote on resolutions that will be introduced on a wide variety of subjects. The resolutions give focus to the union’s goals and help us better serve our members.
APWU locals and state organizations are urged to send their full quota of delegates. Members-at-Large (MAL) also are encouraged to attend.
Several other important union events will take place in the days before the convention. The APWU Research & Education Department will conduct a series of workshops on Friday, July 18. Meetings for each of the divisions — Clerk, Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Service, and Support Services — are set for the weekend of July 19-20, as is the APWU Retirees Conference. The Bulk Mail Center (BMC) Conference is set for July 19.
About the American Postal Workers Union:
The APWU is the world's largest postal union, representing more than 220,000 USPS employees and retirees, and nearly 2,000 private-sector mail workers.
For more nearly four decades, APWU has fought for dignity and respect on the job for the workers we represent, as well as for decent pay and benefits and safe working conditions. As an AFL-CIO affiliate, the APWU supports the struggle for social and economic justice for all working families.
